Hi there & welcome to BdaKiNE.com!
The Notables once again chaired a “Wine & Wears” fundraiser for the San Diego Symphony. Last year, ResMed hosted us at their offices which actually look more like a Museum of Modern Art with all of their super cool and funky art pieces.
For 2016, our event was at the Westgate Hotel thanks to one of our members, Linda Karimi. If you haven’t had the good fortune to meet Linda, google: super beautiful, chic and talented French girl and Linda’s picture will pop up. I hadn’t been to the Westgate in more years than I’d like to count and boy have I ever been missing out. I had forgotten what a special place it is; you feel like you are in a French version of “Downton Abbey” or maybe Marie Antoinette and Versailles would be a better analogy (without having heads chopped off of course). The setting, food, and service was over the top perfection; it’s such a delight when a business exceeds your expectations.
After spending a year helping plan this event and running around all day setting it up, by the time I got to the party, I needed a cocktail big time. Thanks to Old Harbor Distilling Co, I was in luck. They created a specialty cocktail just for us and it was DELICIOUS – totally hit the spot and now I was refreshed and ready to go.
The evening included music from our very own, Anna Danes who sings jazz as beautifully as she looks. Anna is one of those amazingly gorgeous and talented gals that is so kind and considerate that you can’t help but admire and love her.
In addition to shopping for new and gently used designer fashions & accessories, the guests went crazy for the 90+ point wines that came in the most adorable wine totes that you have ever seen (the bags were also insulated and included corkscrews).
Another popular draw was Mary from Margaret’s Cleaners who educated us on what sets her company apart from the rest – “quality thru craftsmanship & attention to detail”. Mary also gave away custom breathable long-term storage bags for sweaters to protect them from dust & insects. And I learned that Margaret’s provides luxury storage as well as refurbishes handbags! I have several purses that are pretty beat up but I love them so I haven’t had the heart to toss them out. Now I don’t have to; I trust Margaret’s to make them beautiful again.
Earlier in the year, Wilson Creek Winery & Vineyards hosted one of our monthly meetings and their generosity extended to our fundraiser as well. In addition to their red and white wines, they served their famous Almond Sparkling Wine which was yummy on its own and was also a perfect pairing for the desserts provided by Cupcakes Squared. I think I love cupcakes and get super excited about them because they remind me of being a little kid and when someone in your class had a birthday, their mom would bring cupcakes for the entire class. Now that I am old, one of the side benefits of cupcakes is that you don’t need plates & forks to serve them!
I would like to give a big shout out to our other sponsors who helped make our event financially successful – San Diego Foundation, NWB Environmental Services, Geico, ResMed, and BNY Mellon. Thanks to our sponsors, guests and volunteers, we hit our goal and will be able to underwrite the San Diego Symphony’s Family Festival “Best & Brightest” side-by-side concert!!!!!!!!! A huge reason why Wine & Wears was so successful is because of our Chair, Joyce Glazer – she definitely leads by example and called in a lot of favors to ensure that the event would be fabulous in every way. All in all, it was a super fun night of shopping, eating & socializing. It’s incredibly rewarding to see people come together for a single goal and achieve it – as my wise friend Howard says “teamwork makes the dream work”.
Thank you for visiting BdaKiNE.com & Have a Grateful Day!
