Hi there & welcome to BdaKiNE.com!
For the March Literary Luncheon we were fortunate to welcome back author Melanie Benjamin. We first met Melanie when she was promoting her New York Times best seller, the Aviator’s Wife.
In Swans of Fifth Avenue, she once again details the inner thoughts and emotions of a woman married to a famous, powerful, narcissistic man. In her latest book, Melanie chronicles the odd friendship between Truman Capote and the ultimate socialite Babe Paley and her gal pals that Truman referred to as the “Swans”. While reading the book, I found myself constantly googling the different characters to learn more about them.
I thought it was so ironic that Melanie wrote a historical fiction book about Truman Capote, who claims that he invented this genre. I also found it interesting that Truman and Nelle Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird) grew up together in a little town called Monroeville, Alabama. How amazing is it that two huge stars, one a Pulitzer Prize winning author, were friends who came from this teeny, tiny town?!
Swans of Fifth Avenue is an easy, fun read and a great reminder that the grass is NOT greener on the other side of the fence. The grass might be prettier but that doesn’t mean you’ll be happy there.
Thank you for taking the time to visit BdaKiNE.com & have a grateful day!
