Hi there & welcome to BdaKiNE.com!
One of my favorite sporting events is the Pac 12 Tournament in Las Vegas. When it was in LA, the attendance was pretty light; now the games are all sold out and everyone is happy, happy, happy. The MGM Grand is big enough that every team and all of their fans can stay there. It’s super convenient to take the elevator down from your room to one of the restaurants and then onto the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The first year that we went, I met one of my besties from college before the UCLA game. Every restaurant and bar that we went into, appeared to be hosting a party for the University of Arizona. Turns out that no, these were not Wildcat parties, it’s just that the Cats have so many fans at the tournament that every everything is overrun with people in red.
Usually, alcohol is not served at college games so we got a couple of drinks at one of the bars and then headed over to the tournament. Well, I guess the normal rules for college sports doesn’t apply when you’re in Vegas because when you get to the entrance of the arena, the security guards have tables set up where we thought we’d have to leave our drinks behind. Little did we know that the tables were filled with plastic cups for you to transfer your drinks into. You can bring alcohol into the arena, you just can’t bring glass.
Once inside the arena, I wanted to get some food which was not easy to find – tons of bars but not a lot of food vendors! I’m not trying to promote drinking here; I’m just saying that it definitely changes the vibe especially when the large majority of the fans are staying in the hotel and walking everywhere not driving.
The MGM Grand has so much to offer on their property that I heard a lot of people say they didn’t leave the hotel during the entire weekend. I wasn’t much better, I seriously had to force myself to go outside at least once a day! This is the fourth year that the Pac 12 tournament has been in Las Vegas and it’s still as much fun as the first time. The Pac 12 reached an agreement with T-Mobile Arena and Las Vegas Events to keep the Pac 12 tournament in Las Vegas for three more years – we can’t wait to see everyone there March 8-11, 2017!!!
